Almost every new project brochure in Virar, Vasai, Nallasopara, Naigaon, Mira Road and Dahisar now talks about “upcoming metro” and “the Virar–Alibaug corridor”. But what is actually built, what is only approved, and what does it really mean for your flat’s value?
Here is an honest, plain-English update as of October 2026, based on official and news sources (listed at the end). We will not promise price rises. Nobody can. But we will help you understand what is real today.
The short version
- Metro Line 9 (Dahisar East to Mira-Bhayandar): the first part is running. The second part is targeted for December 2026, subject to safety approval.
- Metro Line 13 (Bhayandar to Virar): the project report was approved by the state in August–September 2026. Construction has not started yet. The target period is up to 2031.
- Virar–Alibaug Multimodal Corridor: Phase 1 is approved and land acquisition is under way. Construction may start around March 2027, but this depends on central funding approval.
Metro Line 9: Dahisar to Mira-Bhayandar
What it is
According to MMRDA, Metro Line 9 extends Metro Line 7 from Dahisar to Mira-Bhayandar. It connects with Metro Line 2A and Metro Line 7 at Dahisar, and gives Mira Road and Bhayandar a direct link into Mumbai’s metro network.
Current status
- Phase 1, from Dahisar East to Kashigaon, opened to passengers in April 2026, as reported by Projects Monitor and ReMumbai. Its stations are Dahisar, Pandurang Wadi, Miragaon and Kashigaon.
- Phase 2, from Kashigaon to Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium in Bhayandar, is targeted for completion by December 2026, as reported in October 2026. It adds four stations: Sai Baba Nagar, Meditya Nagar, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Garden and Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium.
- Phase 2 can open only after the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) inspects and clears it. Trial runs and signalling tests were reported in September 2026. The opening date could still move.
What it may mean for Mira Road and Dahisar
MMRDA says the line could cut travel time by 50% to 75%, depending on road conditions. For buyers, the clearest benefit is everyday convenience: another way to travel besides the Western Express Highway and crowded local trains.
Will it raise prices? Better transport often supports demand near stations over time. But a working metro is usually already reflected in today’s asking prices, so do not pay a big premium just for being “near metro”. Compare actual walking distance to a station. Metro Line 13: Bhayandar to Virar
What it is
This is the line that matters most for Vasai, Naigaon, Nallasopara and Virar. According to reports in the Free Press Journal and the Indian Express, it is a planned 25-km corridor with 16 stations, from Bhayandar to Dongarpada in Virar. It includes a 4.92-km road-cum-metro bridge over Vasai Creek. It would connect with Metro Line 9 at Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium.
Planned stations include Naigaon, Juchandra, Golani Naka, Vasai, Nallasopara East, Nallasopara West, Yashwant Nagar, Virar and Dongarpada. Interchanges are planned with local train stations at Naigaon, Nallasopara and Virar.
Current status
- The state cabinet approved the project report in August 2026, and the government resolution was issued on 3 September 2026, at a total cost of about ₹17,725 crore.
- MMRDA will implement it. The government has set an implementation period of 2026 to 2031.
- Next steps include appointing consultants and contractors and acquiring land. Construction has not started yet.
What it may mean for Vasai, Nallasopara and Virar
If built as planned, Metro 13 would give this belt its first alternative to the local train for north–south travel. The Vasai Creek bridge alone is expected to cut the road trip between Bhayandar and Vasai from about 40 minutes to about 10, as reported by the Indian Express.
Our honest view: large infrastructure projects can take longer than first planned. Treat Metro 13 as a long-term possibility. Buy a flat that works for your family with today’s commute, and see the metro as a future bonus.
Virar–Alibaug Multimodal Corridor
What it is
This is a planned access-controlled corridor around the outer edge of the Mumbai region, about 126 km long in total. It is planned to link with major highways and expressways and, through them, with the JNPA port and the Navi Mumbai International Airport. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is the implementing agency.
Current status
- In May 2026, the state granted administrative approval for Phase 1, a 96.41-km stretch from Navghar in Vasai taluka to Balavali in Pen taluka, at about ₹31,793 crore (Indian Express).
- In late September 2026, MSRDC’s managing director said more than half of the land had been acquired and construction could begin by March 2027. This depends on the Centre approving viability gap funding (Free Press Journal).
- Environmental approvals, including wildlife-related clearances, were still pending as per earlier reports.
What it may mean for Virar and Vasai
Phase 1 starts in Vasai taluka, so in the long run the corridor could make road travel towards Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Navi Mumbai and beyond much easier. That could help logistics and jobs in the region. But it is a road project still waiting to start construction. Its effect on home prices, if any, is likely to take years and is hard to predict.
How to use this information as a buyer
- Separate “running” from “approved” from “proposed”. In this belt, only Metro 9 Phase 1 and the older lines 2A and 7 (which meet at Dahisar) are running today.
- Do not pay extra for promises. If a project charges more because of future infrastructure, ask what you get today.
- Check the distance yourself. “Near metro” in a brochure can mean a 20-minute walk.
- Choose a solid project first: MahaRERA registration, a realistic completion date and a developer with a good track record matter more than any future road.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Mira Road metro working?
Partly. Metro Line 9 Phase 1 from Dahisar East to Kashigaon opened in April 2026. Phase 2, to Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium in Bhayandar, is targeted for December 2026, subject to CMRS safety clearance.
When will the metro reach Virar?
Metro Line 13 (Bhayandar to Virar) was approved by the state in August–September 2026, with an implementation period up to 2031. Construction has not started yet, so the actual date is uncertain.
Will property prices in Virar go up because of the metro?
No one can promise that. Better connectivity can support demand over time, but prices depend on many things, including supply, interest rates and project quality. Buy for your needs, not only for expected price rises.
What is the status of the Virar–Alibaug corridor?
Phase 1 (Navghar in Vasai to Balavali in Pen) received state approval in May 2026. Land acquisition is under way, and construction may begin around March 2027 if central funding is approved.
